NÚKIB warns against TikTok

The National Cyber and Information Security Agency (NÚKIB) has issued a warning against using the Tik Tok app as it poses a cyber security threat. The Agency has thus joined US and EU authorities that had previously issued similar warnings.

According to the NÚKIB, TikTok collects excessive amounts of data, such as information about users’ locations, contacts and calendars. Due to specific jurisdiction applicable in the People’s Republic of China (PRC), its intelligence authorities may have easy access to this data.

The NÚKIB assessed the level of threat as high, meaning probable to very probable. The warning concerns primarily obliged persons under the Cybersecurity Act and persons who could be targeted by foreign intelligence services (persons holding high political or decision-making positions).

The NÚKIB therefore recommends that users uninstall TikTok from devices that have access to key information systems or restrict the app’s permissions and access to personal data.

The press release and the full text of the warning are available here on the National Cyber and Information Security Agency website.
